Event Details

The Woodbridge Public Library Book Discussion Group will present a classic movie night at the Main Library on Monday, February 12 @ 7:00 PM.  Come enjoy a free presentation of the social satire “The Group.”

“The Group” was directed by Sidney Lumet and was adapted from Mary McCarthy’s novel of the same name.  It focuses on the lives and changing roles of eight Vassar girls, Class of 1933.  The film stars Candice Bergen, Joan Hackett, Elizabeth Hartman, Shirley Knight, Jessica Walter, Kathleen Widdoes, and Joanna Pettet.  Also appearing in it are Hal Holbrook, Carrie Nye, James Broderick, Larry Hagman and Richard Mulligan.

Shocking in its day, the film touches on such taboo topics as mental illness, free love and abortion.  Sharp and precise it describes the complicated worlds of driven, educated young women in the years before WWII.

The Woodbridge Main Library is located at 1 George Frederick Plaza, Woodbridge, NJ. All are welcome.
