Event Details

Celebrate New Jersey’s Makers Day & New Jersey STEM Month at the Woodbridge Main Library on March 26 at 6PM by signing up for our Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshop for Adults, led by seasoned instructor, Jennifer Santa Maria.

This workshop will take a look into some of the history and traditions surrounding Ukrainian egg decorating also known as, pysanky. Pysanky is a folk tradition customarily passed down through the matriarch of the family. Participants will learn the techniques to make their own egg with the guidance of our instructor. All supplies will be provided. We only ask that you bring a container or old egg carton to take home your creation! Spaces are limited and registration is required! Please note that you must be age 18 or older to participate in this program.

The instructor, Jennifer Santa Maria, has created many beautiful eggs using a modern aesthetic. Her approach to this medium is untraditional in that she explores and experiments with mathematical concepts in her work and enjoys the therapeutic and soulful process of creating intricate designs. Jennifer is a high school art teacher in Tinton Falls, NJ and exhibits her decorative eggs in the tri-state area.  She has been teaching pysanky for several years in various settings in New Jersey, in addition to the Brattleboro Art Museum in Vermont, the Silvermine Guild Arts Center in Connecticut, the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in New York State, and the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art.

This workshop is funded by a 2019 NJ STEM Month Mini-Grant with funding generously provided by the Overdeck Family Foundation.  NJ STEM Month highlights the Garden State’s incredible accomplishments in science, technology, engineering, math and innovation.
