Meet Colonia native Afia Atakora virtually November 17 at 7PM over Zoom as she discusses her debut novel Conjure Women. Conjure Women is a sweeping story that brings the world of the South before and after the Civil War vividly to life. Spanning eras and generations, it tells of the story of three unforgettable women. Get a look into how she researched the book, hear an excerpt, and ask her the questions you've been dying to ask about her riveting book. 

Conjure Women has been praised by Publishers WeeklyKirkus ReviewLibrary JournalPoets & Writers Magazine, and BookPage. It has also been picked as the book club reads for Barnes & NoblesRandom House, and Country Living. 

Afia Atakora was born in the United Kingdom and raised in New Jersey, where she now lives. She is a Colonia High School alumni and former Woodbridge Public Library employee. She graduated from New York University and has an MFA from Columbia University, where she was the recipient of the De Alba Fellowship. Her fiction has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and she was a finalist for the Hurston/Wright Award for College Writers.
